Every new year brings new aspirations and dreams and the opportunity for new achievements. The same is true for Rotary, and as we begin our new year, I wish to offer heartfelt congratulations to our very own immediate Past Rotary International President Barry Rassin, and his lovely wife Esther for providing the Rotary world with amazing inspirational leadership. They have been shining examples for all of us in the Rotary world. We truly appreciate and thank them for all that they have done and will continue to do. I also wish to commend Immediate Past District Governor Patrick Adizua and his lovely wife Lesline for leading our District to the many successes that we have achieved this past year.
I do believe that our New Rotary Year will be an exciting time for our Rotary World under the leadership of Rotary International President Mark Maloney, and more so in our amazing District 7020, as we work closely together to build on the successes of the past, especially of our Rotary Year 2018-2019, and thus achieve even greater heights.
Of course, much of the work of any District is done at Club level, and so I wish to congratulate our Presidents who have taken on the awesome responsibility of leading our Clubs. I also wish to congratulate the District team which will be a great resource to help steer and to guide our clubs through a period of excitement, a period of outstanding service and a period of growth.
Very importantly, however, although our Presidents have this responsibility, each Rotarian, Rotaractor, Interactor is expected, and is encouraged to help deliver on the successes of this year, through your full participation in those all-important community and international projects that your Club will undertake.
Under the theme “Rotary Connects the World” R.I. President Mark Maloney has encouraged us to focus on Connections. He implores us to connect to strengthen our clubs and to grow Rotary; to complement and not compete with the family; to connect with community minded younger professionals to secure a new generation of Rotary Leaders; and to connect with partners from across the globe for a healthier and more peaceful world.
As we look to strengthen our Clubs and grow Rotary, I would like to highlight the recent elevation of Rotaractors as Partners in Rotary Service, as well as, the 1000 plus new Rotaract Clubs that were formed in this past year. Let us truly embrace our future leaders by working together with our Rotaractors and Interactors on serious projects, by supporting them and by helping to ensure that Rotaractors transition to Rotary, and Interactors to Rotaract. Our young people bring new ideas, energy, enthusiasm and talent to Rotary, so let them help us expand our reach to do more good in the world.
In accordance with the 2019-2020 RI President Theme, and as we reflect on Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self” I also wish to remind you of our District Theme “Serve Humanity Secure Our Future” I encourage our Clubs to get on board with our two district Projects – the Prevention and Control of Diabetes “My Health My Life, Stop Diabetes Now! As well as HANWASH - Haiti National Clean Water, Sanitation and Health Strategy.
While we do not set out to do good in the world to be recognized, In addition to the satisfaction of touching and changing lives, please enjoy the recognition that comes through the Presidential Citation, the District Governor Award, the Club of the Month Award, and other District and International awards by completing the requisite reports in a timely manner.
Finally, I wish to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your District Governor. Your success is the District’s success and Rotary’s Success. Let us, therefore, embrace the new year with Enthusiasm, Energy and commitment. Let us reach across our clubs, the borders of our countries, and our District for partnerships to deliver more impactful projects. Let us embrace our Youth Services; let us in the words of our District Rotaract Representative, Clayton Bromley have “ Impact Through Unity”; let us “Serve Humanity Secure our Future”; let us connect to do good, and in the process let us enjoy fellowship one with another, and let us have fun on what will be an amazing 2019-2020 Rotary District 7020 journey.
