On September 8th, 2016, World Literacy Day, the club launched the Primary School Literacy Program for all Preschools, Public and Private Primary Schools in North, Central and South Eleuthera and on Harbour Island. The Program’s aim is to read to every preschool or primary school aged child on Eleuthera, to encourage them to explore the joy of reading.  Rotarians, Rotaractors and Community Partners are all participants in this ongoing program.
Rotarian Maisie Thompson read to preschool students at Miss Libby’s Preschool and at Sherry’s Preschool, Tarpum Bay. Rotarian Deborah Young read to K4, 1st and 2nd grade students at Emma Cooper Primary School. President Elect Nurse Sherrin Cooper read ‘The King with Dirty Feet’ at the Emma Cooper Primary School in Palmetto Point and also for the students at the Centre for Exceptional Learners, Governors Harbour. 
Rotarian Nora Knowles read Dr. Seuss’ ‘The Foot Book’ to 1st graders at Tarpum Bay Primary School. Rotarian Glenda Johnson read to 5th and 6th grade students at the Emma Cooper Primary School. Rotarian Robert read to 5th grade students at Green Castle Primary School, Rotarian Sandra Ingraham read ‘Hop on Pop’ to 2nd grade students at Tarpum Bay Primary School.
PP Ian Carey and Rotarian Sandrs read ‘Mr. Brown Can Moo’ to primary school students at Tarpum Bay Primary School. Rotarian Maxwell Leary read to students at Wemyss Bight Primary School. Rotarian Nicholette Duncombe read to 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders at Emma Cooper Primary School. Each book that was read provided a great opportunity for Rotarians to interact with the students and to teach them the depicted life lesson.
