June 12, 2014
To all Canadian Rotarians,

Most Rotarians are by now aware of the 2014 worldwide polio fundraiser known as “World’s Greatest Meal to Help End Polio”. This was started by Australian Rotarian Susanne Rea and British Rotarian Mukesh Malhotra with the intention of raising funds for polio eradication by inviting Rotarians, via social media, to host a meal and accept donations on February 23, 2014.  More than three months later, meal related events are still being planned by Rotarians and non- Rotarians and WGM has raised over $200,000.00, tripled by the Gates Foundation to over $600,000.00.
World’s Greatest Meal has been featured in Rotary Voices (Funding a Million Polio Vaccines Through Social Media) and continues to grow with Facebook groups representing, organizing and tallying in several countries and languages. This is truly a worldwide project to aid End Polio Now.
Many events continue to support WGM such as club meals, private meals, lunch for two, dinner for many, baby showers, birthdays, board game nights, BBQ’s, miss a meal, costume theme dinners, Canada Day events, etc. Events are as varied as imaginations.
District 7020 has issued a challenge to all other Districts to use changeover/handover dinners as WGM fundraisers. WGM is also asking that you consider Canada Day events as WGM fundraising opportunities. Please share the Canada Day option with anyone and everyone, as non-Rotarians are also hosting and donating. Many changeover events have already passed but Canada Day is coming up!
If clubs in your district are participating in WGM, we would like to thank you on behalf of the children you have helped. If Rotarians in your district are considering hosting a WGM event, please encourage them. If WGM is new to your district, please share this information with your clubs.   Please consider  promoting World’s Greatest Meal in as many ways as possible in your Canadian clubs -the USA has a separate coordinator.
Please go to www.wgmeal.com for more information and to register an event. Canadian clubs/hosts please also post your event on Facebook @World’s Greatest Meal to Help End Polio Now-Canada.

Yours in Rotary and with thanks from the children,
Cindy Titus
